Today is Dr. Seuss’ birthday. (Happy Birthday!) At our kids’ school it was not only that, but also the annual Picnic Dance. What you do there as a parent is: You share lunch with your kid or kids, watch them do a dance routine or two and then join in. Mind you, every year we do this, the weather warms up at least 10 degrees and the clear blue sky has never even heard about clouds. It can be windy, rainy and cold the day before and the day after. The Picnic Dance day is always hot.
What happens is that you stand among 150 sweaty kids and another 50 or so sweaty parents and follow the dance instructions to do some variations of line dancing. You will not get all the steps right. You will probably bump into someone else at some point and you will get sweaty for sure.
But guess what? It is totally fun and the kids love you forever for coming out and doing this. This was my fourth year participating in it and dancing with my kiddos. And I’ll be right back there next year, sweating in the hot desert sun. Because:
Sometimes you just got to dance!
